CELESTIAL ELOPEMENT AT THE BONNEVILE SALT FLATS IN UTAH

There is something magical about Utah and the vast variety of landscapes the state has to offer. One of them being Bonneville Salt Flats, which is only an hour and a half west of Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Bonneville Salt Flats are a dense salt pan. The area is a remnant of the Pleistocene Lake Bonneville and is the largest of many salt flats located west of the Great Salt Lake and spans over 40 miles long. Most the year you can drive out onto the Salt flats, which is an experience of its own. Even when its busy you could still be yards or miles away from people and still feel like you have the area to yourself. One way I can best describe it is Its almost like walking on the moon, but in an earth type of version. I highly recommend visiting if you ever pass through the area.

With that said, this was the perfect setting to create a celestial star themed elopement. Meg’s dress was covered in stars, which celestial jewelry to match, and muted sunset color florals to pop in the environment. It made this setting so intimate and Romantic.

What I loved most about this session was how the feel changed as the light did. I got so much inspiration from it all, in person, and in post editing (as I’m sure you’ll see as you scroll through). I remember as we drove out to the salt flats I had this thought in mind how I wanted Meg to Jump into Trey’s hands “Dirty Dancing” style, but have Meg reach for a moon. At the moment it was an idea but I wanted to give it a try. When I told them about it, they said heck yes, and after a few tries.. a few added stars, and a moon… WE GOT THE MAGIC!!! Still to this day its one of my most shared photo’s on instagram. You can find my original post here. This has been one of my favorite shoots to date.

Thinking about planning an elopement or wedding in the salt flats?

I always say there is so much impact in simplicity, and the Salt flats is the perfect blank canvas to do so much with whether you plan elope or have an intimate wedding. I’ve seen people bring out chairs, arches, horses, etc. You can truly make this location, a place of your own.

One thing to consider is when it rains, the flats can gather water, but all things considered can still make for some magic if you don’t mind getting your feet a little dirty. Although during the summer months, this shouldn’t have to worry that.

Even if you’re not planning a wedding in the Bonneville Salt Flats , hope this brings inspiration to Celestial themed day.
